The micropropagation laboratory of IBIMET is dedicated to study and conservation of plant species.
In vitro culture

In vitro culture

In vitro culture.

The micropropagation is based on the vegetative propagation of plants under sterile and controlled environmental conditions. The advantages of micropropagation are:

• QUICK PROPAGATION

• REDUCED NEED FOR SPACE

• HOMOGENEITY OF THE OBTAINED CULTURES

The obtained plantlets (microcuttings) can be transferred in vivo after a short period of acclimatization.

APPLICATIONS

The micropropagation is a valid instrument in the following areas:

Propagation of species used for agriculture and environment. At the IBIMET micropropagation laboratory is possible to realize specific protocols to support the multiplication of commercial species and species with environmental importance.

Preservation of biodiversity. The in vitro culture allows to obtain cultures of plant species of particular ecological interest and to preserve them for long periods in small spaces, allowing, if necessary, the rapid multiplication.

Research. The in vitro culture due to clonal propagation and the resulting homogeneity of the obtained material is also a helpful tool to support studies on plant physiology.

These applications allow the IBIMET micropropagation laboratory to act as partners for both for commercial activities and for basic research.
